Yesterday, Luis Rico-Gutierrez reviewed our team. He has a background in Urban Design and was able to give us a great review to push our design forward. The main things he pointed out were that Urban Design is based in section, meaning that we need to design the outdoor spaces and designing in section best does this. He also said that Urban Design is based on the public space created by buildings so doing a figure ground plan drawing would be helpful to understand where and how large those spaces are.
Another point he brought up was that our proposal for connecting 3rd Street to Las Vegas Boulevard was a good start to get people into the site, but we need to be bigger with our design and not be afraid to do bold moves. He also brought up the idea that we could create a landmark at the corner of 3rd Street and Las Vegas Boulevard as well as at 3rd Street and Charleston Boulevard, the other main connector to our site. 3rd Street is becoming the spine of our site so we need to make sure we add elements that reinforce that idea.
Overall, it was a very helpful review that once again let us know that we are heading in the right direction, we just need to keep working through our ideas and make sure that we are keeping everything connected.
